Made in Penn - Adam Trageser
Born on a snowy Saint Patrick’s Day just outside Pittsburgh, I’ve always had a connection to good old Pennsylvania. While my childhood was spent on sweltering Texas baseball diamonds in the summer and.. well.. more Texas baseball diamonds in the spring, fall, and winter, I was always drawn to artistic pursuits. (pun). Later in life, as I meandered through an engineering degree, living in Houston, TX I struggled daily with a lingering void in my life. I wasn’t happy with where I was in life, or where I was headed for that matter and I needed to change that. Where others might try picking up a new hobby or finding a fun school club to join.. I on the other hand, dropped out of my engineering program, threw out every math and science text book I owned, moved across the country, and enrolled in art school. I wound up back in PA, Philadelphia this time, attending the Tyler School of Art for graphic design. To say I was inspired by PA as an adult is an understatement. From the rich history of our founding fathers in Philadelphia to the old mining towns in west-central PA, real American pride blankets the state. As I grew as a designer I latched onto this theme of old fashioned American pride. I’d say it’s the most noticeable theme in my work today and it’s certainly the theme I enjoy working with the most. (For gosh sakes I put a keystone in every design I can!) I simply would not be where I am today without the inspiration I have found in Pennsylvania, and for that I will ever be grateful to call it my home. Thank you Pennsylvania, and go USA!
